Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections including chlamydia, gonorrhea (in combination), syphilis (when penicillin cannot be used), acne, Lyme disease, and various respiratory infections.

Doxycycline hyclate and monohydrate are the two most common salt forms. Taking with food and a full glass of water reduces stomach upset. Avoid dairy products and antacids close to dosing.
